Artist in Residence & Luna Concert

6. - 12. February 2026

John Carlsson is a German composer and pianist. His music combines the emotional clarity of neo-classical music with the sonic depth of analog electronics. In February, he will spend one week at Parkhotel Mondschein as an artist in residence and will present two concerts during this time.

The surroundings serve as his main source of inspiration. He consciously observes the landscape, nature, architecture, and atmosphere, records them, and translates them into music. Using field recordings from the area, he first creates sonic sketches and moods, which he then transforms at the piano into motifs, improvisations, and structures. From this process, he develops compositions that blend acoustic piano with subtle electronic textures.

His concerts at Mondschein will reflect this creative process and make it tangible for the audience. The evening begins with a set of composed piano pieces, enriched with analog synthesizers and electronic soundscapes. This is followed by an improvised section in which he creates open sonic landscapes and incorporates field recordings from Bolzano and the surrounding mountain scenery. Each performance is created in the moment and is unique.
