Silvio Rebholz, a German artist and product designer, spent ten days as Artist in Residence at Parkhotel Mondschein in spring 2024. During his time in Bolzano, he gathered inspiration from local craftspeople and regional materials. He was particularly inspired by the brass, which is prominently used both in the city and the hotel. He visited local brass-spinning workshops and studied this traditional processing method on-site.
As a product designer, he has now translated his experiences and influences into a design element for Parkhotel Mondschein. His table lamp incorporates high-quality regional materials - glass and brass - and combines them with a wax candle to create a warm and atmospheric light. The flame, protected by the glass, is reflected by the curved brass shade, casting a pleasant circle of light.
Various inspirations from the hotel have influenced the design of the lamp. The combination of traditional craftsmanship - such as the spinning of the brass shade, a technique that is almost extinct, with the cutting-edge, computer-based production of the lamp base - mirrors how Parkhotel Mondschein itself blends classic design with modern elements. The stylish light integrates effortlessly into the elegantly relaxed atmosphere of the Luna Restaurant and Luna Bar - both indoors and in the romantic park.
Silvio Rebholz’s designer lamp will be available for purchase in limited edition at Parkhotel Mondschein.

Silvio Rebholz developed the Luna candleholder for the garden terrace of Parkhotel Mondschein in Bolzano during his artist residency. Inspired by the many metal-spun elements found throughout the historic building, his design translates this material language into a warm, natural light source – creating atmosphere without electricity. A movable reflector allows the light to be directed as needed. It rests on a rubber ring around the glass tube and can be adjusted up or down as the candle burns.
Luna is made entirely from untreated materials. All components are pressed together with standard O-rings – without glue, without screws – making each part easy to replace and recyclable within existing systems. Every production step – from metal turning to glass cutting – takes place in workshops within a 15 km radius of the hotel. This close collaboration makes use of South Tyrol’s excellent infrastructure, enabling short transport routes, fast iterations, and direct exchange with the makers.
Luna was produced in an initial series of 100 pieces and is currently in use on the terraces of both Parkhotel Mondschein and Villa Arnica. The candleholder is also available for purchase at our hotels.
